Saint Lawrence or Laurence (31 December 225—10 August 258) was one of the seven deacons of the city of Rome, under Pope St Sixtus II, who was martyred in the persecution of the Christians that the Roman Emperor Valerian ordered in 258.

The Beatles - Let it Be - Live!!

In order to understand the meaning behind the popular song, Let it be by the Beatles, The song came together when Paul McCartney had a dream about his admired and deceased mother, named Mary. In it, she helped him through a particularly hard time in his life and gave him one simple piece of advice, “let it be”. For that reason, the line, “When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me,” is solely about Paul’s mother. And with that, he created the stunning song that many love to this day.

Focus

A man went to the Pastor of his church and said, “I won't be attending Church anymore.”  said, “May I ask why?” The Pastor said.
He said, “I see people on their cell phones texting and typing during the service, some are gossiping, some just aren’t living right, some are sleeping, some are staring at me, they are all just hypocrites.”
The Pastor was silent. Then he said, “Can I ask you to do something for me before you make your final decision?”
He said, “Sure, what's that?”
He said, “Take a glass of water and walk around the church two times and don't let any water fall out of the glass.”
He said, “Yes I can do that!” He went and got the glass of water and walked around the church two times. He came back and said proudly, “It's done.”
The pastor asked him these questions; “Did you see anybody on their phone?; Did you see anybody gossiping?; Was anybody living wrong?; Did you see anyone sleeping?”
He said, “I didn't see anything because I was so focused on this glass, so the water wouldn't spill out”
He told him, “When you come to church , you should be just that focused on God , so that you don't fall. That’s why Jesus said, ‘Follow Me’, He did not say follow them.”
Don't let your relationship with God be determined by how others relate with God. Let it be determined by how focused you are with God.
AMEN

Crosby Stills Nash - Southern Cross

Crosby Stills Nash - Southern Cross
"The song's lyrics are about a man who sails the Pacific following a failed love affair. During the voyage, the singer takes comfort in sailing ("We got eighty feet of the waterline / Nicely making way"), in the beauty of the sea, and particularly in the Southern Cross, a constellation by which sailors in the Southern Hemisphere have traditionally navigated. (The Southern Cross is not visible from most of the Northern Hemisphere, the more tropical latitudes being the exception.) But his final consolation is music. ("I have my ship / And all her flags are a-flyin' / She is all that I have left[5] / And music is her name.") The last lyric is filled with sad irony as he tries to convince himself that he will eventually forget his former lover, although he knows this will never happen any more than he can forget the beauty of the Southern Cross. ("Somebody fine will come along and make me forget about loving you / And the Southern Cross.")" - wiki

Problems

The culture we live in puts pressure on families to violate God's word. It is greater now than at any other time in history because of mass media that fill us up with ideas that chip away at family life by telling everyone that illicit sex is o.k. and by telling people nobody stays committed to a troubled marriage. They tell us it's better for the kids to be with one parent rather than have them live in an enviorment of constant arguments, or they say happiness comes from being successfull financially, They tell us husband and wife must both work and that their carrers come first before anything else. In other words they are telling us how we should live our lives. There is no wonder husbands and wives are continually argueing. The devil will do anything he can to destroy the family. Ephesians 6:11 tells us to put on the whole armour of God, and 1 Peter 5:8 tells us the devil is our advesary prowling around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. We are not to be conformed to this world, but transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). We should have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). God did not promise that our lives would be easy " We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God" (Acts 14:22). So you see, there will always be hurdles that we as Christians must overcome in this life here on earth.

Reindeer

GIRL POWER: According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year (the only members of the deer family, Cervidae, to have females do so). Male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer retain their antlers until after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to every historical rendition depicting Santa’s reindeer, every single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen . . . had to be a girl. We should’ve known that when they were able to find their way.

Romans 16:22

Paul is the author, but Tertius the scribe or amanuensis (a person who takes dictation or copies manuscripts) who actually did the writing. Tertius means "third" in Latin and it was a common name of slaves. Some slaves were trained as scribes. Then there are some who think he was Silas, who was a constant companion of Paul. The Hebrew word is the same for Teritus. Some say that he was one of the seventy disciples that were sent out by Jesus  (John Gills commentary on Luke 10:1).
Tertius greets the readers of Romans. It is possible he was known among the Christians in Rome. Tertius himself was probably a Christian. It is also possible that he was one of the Jews expelled from Rome and found his way to Corinth.
Whether slave, disciple or Christian one thing is known for sure is that he was either a scribe or an amanuensis to Paul and wrote the letter.

Heaven and Hell

The Bible says that we cannot hide our sin from God. Adam and Eve tried and God held them accountable. As a result of their sin they were removed from the Garden of Eden. The Bible teaches that God will hold everyone accountable. People don't like to be held accountable, but we must all stand before God one day. He sees everything we do. God is watching. If a child got into their Mother's pocket book and took a $20.00 bill when no one was around, God saw this. No matter how sneaky we are we can't sneak around on God. Judgment Day is coming. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would convict us of sin, and righteousness, and judgment. He will make us aware that what we are doing is wrong. So what can we do? The good news is that we can confess our sin to God before the Day of Judgment gets here. We can believe in His Son Jesus Christ and trust Him as our Savior. When we do this all our sins will be forgiven. The Bible says that Jesus came to save us from our sins. The Bible says that we are all sinners and in need of forgiveness. Jesus died on the cross for our sins. He arose from the grave. He will one day return in judgement. The great day of the Lord is coming and probably soon. We cannot expect God's blessing if we leave Him out of our life. But when we turn to Him His blessing is promised. No matter what we have done He will forgive us. If we don't take sin seriously then we have probably never been saved. To think about being lost on the day of judgment is a scary thing. The Bible says if that happens then we will spend eternity in Hell. The Bible says this is forever and it's not pleasant. It's horrible. But the alternative is Heaven and we can spend eternity there when we turn to Jesus. That's why it's called the Good News. If you died today can you honestly say you have been saved? Do you think about God? Do you spend time talking to Him in prayer? Do you read the Bible? Do you worship God? If these things are not part of your life then maybe you can't say that you have been saved. If they don't matter to you then you may be lost. If you feel conviction about your sin then maybe God is trying to talk to you. Are you listening? Jesus came to save us from our sin and He wants us to believe in Him and trust Him for salvation and forgiveness of sin.

Why Do I Still Struggle with Sin Even Though I am a Christian?

Giving

It is right to have a heart that would continually give to others, and it pleases God to see this wonderful characteristic in our lives. However, in this area of giving and helping, the Bible also teaches that we must have wise discernment. God gives us certain standards that we must take into account when it comes to giving our time and money to others. When the Bible tells us we are to help others, the purpose is never for us to do this to the point where it becomes detrimental. It's good to do what we're able to do, but 2 Thessalonians 3:10  also reminds us, "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." There are people who want to live an irresponsible lifestyle with absolutely no accountability. So there must be limits; we will help someone with a need, but if we see that it's become a chronic life pattern, it's wrong for us to continue to encourage that. It's very harmful to others to contribute to their indolence, laziness, and lack of effort. The old saying "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime" is very true. As long as we see that someone is sincerely making an effort, we should be there to support him in whatever way God leads.

Civil War

In 1879 the U.S. government released the official estimate of the cost of the Civil War as six billion one hundred ninety million dollars. That is one hundred forty- five billion eight hundred forty-one million nine hundred eighty-eight thousand five hundred forty- six dollars and thirteen cents in today's money. That's 2,256.1 percent increase in inflation since 1879.The Confederate side spent about half that amount. Over one million lives were lost total on both sides due to military engagements, naval battles, accidents, suicide's, sicknesses, murders, and executions. By 1905 another 3.3 billion dollars (87 billion 271 million 544 dollars, and 44 cents in today's money) was spent on pensions and other Federal benefits. Southern states and private philanthropy provided benefits to Confederate veterans. The amount spent on benefits exceeded the cost of the war.

Roman Empire, British Empire

There are two great empires in the history of Man that stand out as the two most successful Empires of all, the Roman Empire of antiquity and the British Empire of modern times. Most historians that I am familiar with say that the British were so successful in building an Empire because they brought British law with them and established about as much justice as one can, while subjugating a people. The Roman Empire worked because the Romans allowed an unusual amount of local autonomy, as we see clearly in the Gospels, and the New Testament writings in general. A provincial outpost such as Judea would have local governance within certain limits, as long as there was no overt rebellion against the Romans. If there was open opposition to the Romans, then their response would be swift, violent and brutal, as those in Judea would discover about 40 years later.
Individuals who didn’t follow the Roman rules were also dealt with merciless brutality, and that is where crucifixion came into play. Let’s be honest, crucifixion was not a very efficient method of execution; if the victim wasn’t roughed up too badly beforehand, it would take days for them to die, and that meant that guards would need to be posted for days to ensure that the victim wasn’t saved. The reason is that there is nothing inherently fatal about being nailed to a cross. By having the victim suffering in agony for days on public display served as a warning to all others not to cross the line.
But wait that’s not all! After the person finally died, their body would be le
