Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch painter in the mid nineteenth century. He is one of the most prominent artists in history. He cut off one of his ears while in a depression that plagued him his entire life. Some think that it was the result of his early years as a preacher among impoverished miners. He was a religious man, he was also "a great admirer of the Bible."
According to scholar Judy Sund, Van Gogh used Biblical eaf"motifs in most of his work, and he was "especially drawn to the parables" as reflected in his painting of " The Sower and the Sheaf" found in the gospels of Matthew and Mark. Sund also notes that Van Gogh saw parallels between his paintings and the parables-both used everyday context to communicate meaning.
