Luke

The story can be found in Luke 1:1-4. Luke was not among the first disciples of the Lord nor did he see the Lord while he was alive on this earth. People before had recorded what they knew about Jesus' life. They got their information from those people who were with Jesus. One of the earlier records was probably Marks gospel. Luke studied what these people wrote. He probably spoke to many people that were with Jesus. He listened to what these people said then made sure the information was correct and wrote it down.
Luke calls the message they passed down; 'the word'; 'The word' means the gospel especially what Jesus taught. A lot of Bible translations say these people were 'servants of the word'. They were probably apostles and teachers in the first Christian churches.
It is not known who Theophilus was. Theophilus was a proper name and Luke called him most excellent. This seems to show that Theophilus was a real and important person. Probably like Festus in Acts 26:25. Theophilus may have been the one who arranged for the book to be published. He could have been either a Greek or Roman government official.
Luke wrote the book for Theophilus but he intended for other people to read it. He wanted Theophilus and other people to have a true and informative record of what happened. He wanted them to be sure of what they learned and could understand the gospel and believe in the Lord Jesus.

Why did God choose Israel to be His chosen people?

Why did God choose Israel to be His chosen people?: Why did God choose Israel to be His chosen people? What does it mean that Israel is God's chosen people?
